The Tuesday Post
I was recently commissioned to stitch Islington Town Hall. The framed piece was going to be given as a wedding gift.
This one was a little bit different as I didn't have a photograph to work from, so I googled the venue and worked from a few different images. This was one of them:

Here is a little progress pic, all my house and venue portraits are stitched using only freehand machine embroidery:

I am super proud of it, I was so worried about stitching it but I love the outcome.
This is it all framed up with the names of the recipients and the date of the wedding on the mount. It made a really bespoke gift.
I really love that my work can be a part of someones special day. It's a huge honour to be asked to stitch peoples homes and wedding venues.

The Sunday Post
Good afternoon,
This week has been a busy one with house and venue portraits, which I can't show you just yet as they have been commissioned for Christmas gifts.
I can show you one I worked on a few weeks ago now though:
This one didn't get framed, I am looking forward to showing you what it got turned into!
This weekend holds more house and venue portraits I hope to get all my Christmas commissions complete.

The Sunday post & a little giveaway...
Good afternoon,
I hope you've had an excellent week and that you're now wrapped up nice and warm. How cold has it suddenly become?!
This week has been a busy one at my 'real' job so not had a lot of time for making. But I now have two days off, which I plan to get cracking with all my house portrait orders- I cannot wait.
My Etsy shop is now up and running (yippee) I still have a few items to list on there so keep checking back you can visit it here:

I'm loving the evening skies too. Walking home from work on Friday I spotted this gorgeous rainbow in the beautiful sky over Marlborough.
Today I've been taking some product photographs of my greetings cards ready to list on my Etsy shop. I hope to open it next weekend (EEEK!)

The Sunday Post...
Good morning,
I've actually managed to do the Sunday Post on a Sunday.... go me!
This week I received a very special delivery. I received my Christmas cards back from the printers. YIPEEE! I used some of my favourite designs from last years Advent challenge.

This week I received a very special delivery. I received my Christmas cards back from the printers. YIPEEE! I used some of my favourite designs from last years Advent challenge.
Aren't they fab (if I do say so myself) I'm super pleased!
The next job is to open up an Etsy shop. Something I've been thinking about for a long time. I think now is the perfect time to get cracking with it!
I've read a lot of tips about having an Etsy shop, the most important thing seems to be to have great photographs. I will be reading this fab book to get some top tips:
I also have treated myself to come Christmassy props to help style my photographs:
This week over on my instagram I've also been recording what else has been going on.
I completed a fab house portrait with a purple front door - love it! I've also been embracing autumn. I adore all the beautiful rich colours.
So hopefully by next weeks Sunday post I'll have a plan for when I'm going to open my Etsy shop and have some great photographs of my products! Fingers crossed.

The Sunday Post...
Good evening,
I hope I find you well.
This is really last weeks Sunday post but when I got back from my little trip away I felt a bit poorly so never got round to doing the post.
My Mum and I went away to Hebden Bridge in Yorkshire for a few days to go and visit the Heart Gallery. As you may know from previous posts I absolutely LOVE the work of Kirsty Elson Designs and have been desperate to buy a piece of her work for a long time.
The Heart gallery was having a 'meet the maker' evening for their 'Time and Tide' exhibition which is a collaboration between Kirsty's work and Angela Smyth's wonderful paintings.
I knew I really wanted to go so Mum and I made it a girly few days.
We were first in the queue on the Thursday night's preview evening as I was worried all Kirsty's work would sell before I got there. I was so excited to meet both the artists. It was such a pleasure to chat with them. Although I did turn into a bit of a 'Fan Girl' and got very excited.
I then had the tricky decision of which driftwood house I wanted to buy. They were all gorgeous. I finally set my heart on two. Well truth be told three but Mum reined me in! I also had my photo taken with Kirsty Elson and one of the pieces I bought...
I have returned home filled with inspiration for my own work and a desire to really achieve my dream of becoming a designer maker. Maybe one day I'll see my own work in a gallery, now that would be exciting.
The Time and Tide exhibition runs until November 15th. I definitely recommend a trip to the Heart Gallery - it is filled with such wonderful work.

Good morning,
I Hope you have all had a fab week.
My week has been filled with special commissions, London trips and new books!
I've been working on a new house portrait that is going to be turned into something a bit different, it's not being framed. I can't give away too much now but I'm excited to see the final piece. I will share it when I can!
On Friday the other half and I went to London to see Kevin Bridges in the evening and have a day seeing the sites. (A bit of a bus mans holiday for him as he works in London all week!).
Anywhoo we visited the Tate Modern which brought back memories of trekking around it at school and then later at University (I studied Fine Art at uni!). But this time I was more excited by what I found in the gift shop...
I found this gorgeous children's book filled with wonderful illustrations of high street buildings. I love it, it's filled with tons of inspiration for me!
I've also been experimenting with adding an extra personal touch to my house and venue portraits. I've been working on adding the name of the couple getting married and the date or the house name and street.

Good morning,
I don't know about where you are, but the sun is shining in Wiltshire today. Finally, YIPEEE!
Today's Sunday Post is going to be a little bit different. I'm going to show you the stages of each house portrait.
I first ask for a photograph of the house. As straight on as possible is best, but if it's slightly off I can still work with it.
After I have drawn it onto the squared paper I ink it in so the lines are dark enough to see through the fabric. I then use a light box to trace it on to the fabric ready for stitching.

Today's Sunday Post is going to be a little bit different. I'm going to show you the stages of each house portrait.
I first ask for a photograph of the house. As straight on as possible is best, but if it's slightly off I can still work with it.
If the photograph is straight on I trace it on to a piece of squared paper. As this one is not quite face on I draw it out without tracing. It's at this point that I select which details I'm going to include. You can definitely say what you would like me to include if there are certain details.
I hoop up my fabric so it's drum tight and start stitching over my pencil lines. This is when the fear sets in, but I love it. As I use freehand machine embroidery the lines just have a lovely wobbly quality - I never know quite how it's going to go. I often hold my breath without realising when I start (which is not ideal!) but I soon get into the flow.
I then choose the fabric for the front door. I try to choose a similar colour, but with a fun pattern on! This then gets stitched on.
Finally I frame it up, give it a polish and photograph it. Then it's ready to pack up nice and snug in bubble wrap and polka dotty tissue.
And there you have it! So each portrait takes quite a lot of time, but you know what, I love doing them. If you are interested in having one done please contact me here.

Happy bank holiday, Yipeee!
This week has been a busy one. I've been getting ready for my first craft fair with my new stitched work. I've been framing pieces and making a gazillion lists so I don't forget anything.
I've also been able to show a house portrait I completed a few weeks a go for a groom to give to his bride. What a lovely idea...

I've also been stitching more mini pictures (because I think they're dead cute!)
The craft fair was upstairs in Lichfield guildhall, so on Friday I drove back to my parents house and spent the evening setting up how I wanted the stall to look.
This is how it looked on the day...
I was really chuffed with how my stall looked and got lots of lovely compliments and sold a few things. More excitingly I got enquiries about my house and venue portraits which is just fantastic :) I had these as flyers out on my table...

The Sunday Post...
Good morning,
I didn't do my Sunday catch up post last week as I was away for a few days in Northumberland for my birthday. My chap and I traveled up on Saturday via Tynemouth where I used to go on holiday every summer to see my Granny Bannany. It was lovely to go back there and the sun way shining which was even better. I made friends with a seagull, but I think to be fair, he was just after my fish and chips....
We then drove on up the coast to Rothbury where we stayed in a most beautiful B&B with wonderful views to look out on over breakfast.
We ventured into Alnwick where there was the most lovely buildings.
Not forgetting the wonderful Alnwick castle where I was treated to lunch in the tree house restaurant...
It was a really fab weekend. It's definitely nice to get away and see what the UK has to offer. Northumberland really is a beautiful place.
Now I'm back I have got a lot to do as it's just one week until my craft fair in Lichfield at the guild hall next Saturday. If you're around please pop in to say hello it's open from 10-4.
