PATTERN ON PAUSE

Well it was all going too well. Tomorrow I'm off away on site with work so won't be able to post patterns for about 2 or 3 days so will have to make up for that when I'm back! Tonight I'm running round sorting everything that I thought I had the week to do so will not be posting a pattern tonight.

Sorry, speak soon xx

DAY TWENTY THREE: DESIGN A DAY

HELLO HELLO HELLO

I have had a lovely day today. Spent a lot of time in the garden helping spruce it up a bit. Also took the dog out for a long walk and had a cheeky run so made the most of the sunshine.

For toady's pattern I did a paper cut out of card and then put it in to repeat on the computer. What do you think? It's quite simple but I like it :)

The original paper cut

Hope you have had a lovely weekend, just one more week to go then the bank holiday, ooo lovely

see you tomorrow

DAY TWENTY TWO: DESIGN A DAY

HAPPY SATURDAY :)

hope the weather has been glorious with you today. I've had a lovely day topped off nicely with a BBQ and a cheeky Malibu and lemonade :)

For today's pattern I have gone for a more random monochromatic print.  Usually I do, I think they are called 'Conversational patterns' that are quite colourful. Today I thought I would go for something different. I think tomorrow I may do a different media.. and give digital patterns a break!

Have a lovely summer evening,

see you tomorrow

DAY NINETEEN: DESIGN A DAY

Evening All,

Sorry that I'm getting later and later posting. Not only have I set myself this Design A Day challenge but I have also set myself another... I am currently training for a cancer research 10k run too. So I am squeezing that in after work before driving an hour home! Ha ha I do like to make it hard for myself. Anywhoo, today's pattern is a happy, quirky pattern. I think it is quite summery what do you think...

I hope that you having a good week so far,

DAY EIGHTEEN: DESIGN A DAY

Good evening all,

Just wanted to say a quick thank you for stopping by my blog. Whether this is the first time you have looked or have been popping back everyday thank you for taking the time to have a little read :)

I like today's pattern When I was younger I used to collect penguins. They are by far my favourite animal. They are just so cute. So I wanted to do a fun quirky pattern with them.

I think once this month is over I am going to go back over some of my patterns and tweak them and also make some collections out of them.

Anywhoo, enjoy the rest of your evening, Thanks again,
see you tomorrow

DAY SEVENTEEN: DESIGN A DAY

Evening,

I've tried a slightly different style pattern tonight not sure if I'm 100% happy with it but it's good to try different things. Maybe it's the colours I'm not sure of? This deffo needs more work!

See you tomorrow

DAY SIXTEEN: DESIGN A DAY

Good afternoon,

Yesterday when I was out I bought a photo frame to put some print outs of my designs in. Just to see what they looked like away from my computer screen. I'm quite pleased with the outcome...

For today's pattern I seem to have gone back to sea life! I was going to do something different but I had a falling out with my scanner so did this design on my graphics tablet thingy-ma-jig! I like the murky colour palette on this one.

Enjoy the rest of your Sunday.
See you tomorrow

DAY FIFTEEN: DESIGN A DAY

Happy Saturday,

Hope you are all having a good weekend so far. Today my Mum and I went shopping. The  running theme in every shop we looked in was the Jubilee and the Olympics. Red, white and blue was EVERYWHERE we looked. It was on home wares, clothes and stationary. So my pattern has been heavily influenced by what I saw today...

I'm already halfway through my challenge and still enjoying it, I just need to soak up some more inspiration.

Have a lovely Saturday,

See you tomorrow

DAY FOURTEEN: DESIGN A DAY

Tonight I am absolutely shattered. I've got that tired Friday feeling. So just a quick post this evening.

Needing some new inspiration. I'm back home at my parents this weekend so going to try and find some new topics here!

Have a lovely Friday,

see you tomorrow

DAY THIRTEEN: DESIGN A DAY

Hello,

Day thirteen... eek.. unlucky for some, and kinda for me. I've struggled with my pattern today. Everything I have done I didn't really like so I've gone for something simple again. Hopefully it will make you smile.

In any case, you can't have tea without biscuits!!

The weekend is in sight! I'm driving home after work tomorrow so may be a late post again.

Hope your week has gone well so far.
See you tomorrow

DAY TWELVE: DESIGN A DAY

Bonjourno,

well I am in a chipper mood this evening :) Last night not only my friend master how to do a technical box repeat on Illustrator, but together we worked out how to do a half drop repeat and brick repeat (with a little help from one of the books I bought the other day too!) WOOP WOOP we rule Nic!!

So I have done two simple patterns tonight, what d'ya think...

Brick Repeat
Half Drop Repeat
I'm not gonna lie I'm quite chuffed. There is still a lot to learn but I'm getting there :)

Have a lovely evening

DAY ELEVEN: DESIGN A DAY

Evening chaps,

just a quick one today as I have a friend over who I'm trying to show an easier way of doing a technical repeat to... (blind leading the blind springs to mind!) Today's pattern is a follow on from yesterdays...

Acorn a plenty!!

Have a lovely evening,

see you tomorrow

DAY TEN: DESIGN A DAY

Good evening,

Last night I was looking though my photographs of my visit to the Isle of Wight. I came across one photo that made me smile and used it as the basis for today's pattern...

Hope you like it :)

DAY NINE: DESIGN A DAY CHALLENGE

Happy Sunday,

Hope that you have had a lovely weekend so far. I have been busy beavering away doing designs as part of my challenge. Yesterday I posted about two new books I have bought. I love a good design book, I think it's because it's like an adult version of a picture book! Both books are available to purchase here I Love stationery and The Complete Guide to Designing and Printing Fabrics they are both full of current work and they also show you different techniques and styles.

My mum has recently started painting in watercolours. I love looking through her paintings. Watercolours are one of the many techniques that I just can't seem to crack. My mum is teaching herself through a mixture of books and online resources. She doesn't really like to show her work and cringed a little bit when I asked her if I could post one of her pictures on my blog. She liked my photograph of the fruit and veg I posted earlier in the week and used that to paint this ...

I  think it's fantastic..  :)

Righty, on with the challenge, today's pattern is a placement print. I bought myself a bunch of gorgeous tulips last week and took inspiration from them.

Well I think that's enough of my babbling today. Hope you have a wonderful Sunday.

See you tomorrow

xx

DAY EIGHT: DESIGN A DAY

Morning,

Today's design I call 'tools of my trade' I think it would work well on a children's stationary collection. I am also going to post a couple of new designs I did last night too.

This surface pattern malarkey really is addictive. I'm really enjoying this challenge. My mind is constantly whirling with new ideas. To think by the end of this challenge I'll have 30 new designs is really exciting :)

I have just bought two really gorgeous books about surface pattern and designing which I can't wait to read, I think that is what I'll be doing today  :)

Hope you have a wonderful Saturday :)

see you tomorrow

DAY SEVEN: DESIGN A DAY

Happy Friday everyone,

Welcome to day seven of my design a day challenge.. I've managed to stick to it for a whole week :)

Today is a non technical repeat pattern. I quite like it but I think I'm going to develop it for tomorrows design as I have another idea in mind...

I think this design may look quite nice on a stationary range.

Have a lovely rest of your Friday and I'll see you tomorrow

xx

DAY SIX: DESIGN A DAY

Good Evening,

Today I am spoiling you, after posting yesterdays pattern, I went a bit design crazy and did loads more designs. I will post them up along with today's pattern :) . Today's theme seems to be ducks, after all it is lovely weather for them!!

Today's pattern duck technical repeat

Hope that you like the designs I'm posting. If you have any feedback, advice etc or have a theme in mind that I could draw please feel free to post comments below :)

See you tomorrow

DAY FIVE: DESIGN A DAY

Good Evening,

Today I have worked from the photographs of the fruit I bought yesterday. This time I did some designing on the computer. I focused mainly on the cut lemon image adding in some oranges to create a bit more interest. Again, this is a non technical repeat. A friend at work today asked me what I see my designs being printed on. I think this design might work quite well as a tea towel or something like that.

Hope you have all had a lovely day.
see you tomorrow

DAY FOUR: DESIGN A DAY

Good evening,

Today I have mixed it up a bit and done some paper cut work. When I was studying at Uni I really enjoyed doing paper cut work and one of the first subjects we papercutted (not sure that's a word!) was fruit and veg. So I thought why not go back to that and have another go. First was a trip to the supermarket to buy a variety of fruit and veg...

..then the experimenting could begin, Today's designs are definitely a work in progress..

I then created a digital moodboard with a mixture of images on as a way of presenting my work:

Tomorrow I am back at work so will be blogging around this time again. I am excited to see what tomorrows design will bring.

See you then

Design a Day: Extra

Very silly extra :) I have just managed to do my first equal polka dot pattern. It was a lot more simple than I thought. I love polka dots I think they are the happiest of patterns :)

Gonna go now and make loads more colourways :)

xx

DAY THREE: DESIGN A DAY

Good Afternoon,

Day three of my design a day challenge. I don't know what could have inspired today's design??

I think I'm going to try a different technique tomorrow, maybe paper cut or something. We'll see!

Anywho, hope you enjoy your bank holiday Monday whatever the weather may bring!

See you tomorrow,

xx

DAY TWO: DESIGN A DAY

Good Morning,

Today I have been up early to get cracking with my second design. Yesterday I went out for a walk and spotted a letter box, I have always been drawn towards red letter boxes and telephone boxes so thought this would be the perfect motif for my second pattern. It's not in a technical repeat, I need to learn how to do a half drop repeat properly!

Hope you like it. Enjoy your sunday :)

DAY ONE: A DESIGN A DAY

Hola,

Here is my day one design. I have had the bow motif knocking around for a little while so decided today was the day I was going to use it. I have had another go at doing a box repeat on illustrator with this motif. I'm not 100% confident with illustrator but I think this has worked ok. What do you think?

See you tomorrow

A Challenge..

Bonjour all,

Okie dokie, I have a confession... I have been slacking... majorly. Work has just gobbled up all my time, and staying away from home (mixed with long hours) is not helping! So, to try and get myself back on track, I have decided to set myself a little challenge...

As you probably know I have signed up to take part in the Surface Pattern Ecourse devised by Rachael Taylor and Beth Nicholls. The course is so inspiring and packed full of brilliant information on how to make it as a Surface Pattern Designer. However, due to my work schedule I'm not keeping up to date with it as much as I would like. In order to try and participate more I am going to do a DESIGN A DAY. These designs will range in form- some being pen scribbles in a sketch pad, and others will be completed on the computer. Whatever form my designs take, I will post the results here on my blog. To begin with this is going to be a short term goal, doing a design a day for a month. If I successfully do this I will continue for another month, and so on.

So I best get cracking! Please keep your eyes peeled, as I will be back later today with the first of my designs...

Wish me luck!

Meg :)
