A-Z Pattern Challenge 2016

Good morning,

Every now and again I like to set a little design challenge to get cracking on new work. Last year I did the Spring into Design challenge where I created a design a day for each day in March. You may recognise some of these as card designs in my Etsy shop:

A couple of years a go (before I got into textiles and embroidery) I did an A-Z Challenge. The below pic was taken from a potato print design:

H was for Houses

This year I've decided instead of doing a 'design a day challenge' to do another A-Z challenge and try to complete it during March/April(possibly even May!). I have created a completely random list of prompts that I hope will help spark some ideas:

If you would like to get involved too please do. You can use any medium you like, paint, pencil, digital, photography, collage, textiles the list goes on. I would like to experiment more with mixed media, but we'll see! If you are going to get involved please use the hashtag #AZchallenge just so we can all take a peep at the different designs being created!

Right I'm off to get cracking.

Recent Work...

Evening all,

As I've been so quiet I thought I'd show you some work that I've been stitching recently. I am so lucky to get such wonderful commissions...

A gorgeous welsh cottage with fab red phone box in the front garden- how brill!

A picturesque home stitched as a Christmas present <3

This stitched cottage made the recipient cry, I'm assured they were happy tears!

An extraordinary wedding venue complete with red carpet!

A gorgeous bungalow with beautiful pink blossom tree!

Which is your favourite?

If you're interested in having a stitched house or venue portrait please get in touch via hello@mayidesign.co.uk or through my facebook page

Happy New Year

Evening,

Happy New Year. I cannot believe another year has gone by! What's more I cannot believe I'm going to be 30 this year! Flippin' heck!

I thought I'd share with you my goals for the upcoming year. I had originally thought I would challenge myself to spend at least 30 minutes a day on May I design. Fitting it in when I could and around my full time job but making sure I spent a minimum of half an hour a day on it. But then I came across the 100 day challenge set by The Business bakery. Julia Bickerstaff has set a fab challenge of setting a specific goal and working on it for 100 days completing tasks as you go.
Julia has created a very handy workbook and work sheets to note down micro goals and a list of 100 steps that will get you closer to your achievement. Me being me, I'm slightly behind as I was back at work last week but I will get there! Today has been spent planning and choosing my 100 steps.

I'm super excited to see what opportunities arise this year and I hope to seize every single one!

The Tuesday Post

Good evening all,

I was recently commissioned to stitch Islington Town Hall. The framed piece was going to be given as a wedding gift.

This one was a little bit different as I didn't have a photograph to work from, so I googled the venue and worked from a few different images. This was one of them:

Here is a little progress pic, all my house and venue portraits are stitched using only freehand machine embroidery:

And this is the final stitch:

I am super proud of it, I was so worried about stitching it but I love the outcome.

This is it all framed up with the names of the recipients and the date of the wedding on the mount. It made a really bespoke gift.

I really love that my work can be a part of someones special day. It's a huge honour to be asked to stitch peoples homes and wedding venues.
