DAY THIRTY: DESIGN A DAY

Hello,

welcome to my final pattern :) and the final day of my 'design a day' challenge! It's been good fun and really got me thinking about my own design style and got my creating, which I have really enjoyed. I definitely recommend setting yourself a challenge as it really good way to get the cogs working!

Doing this challenge has made me constantly look for new design ideas and motifs!

I will now try and divide my patterns into collections and add in co-ordinating designs. Which I might try and do as a weekly challenge upload a new collection each week! We will see!

Anyway, I hope you have enjoyed looking at my blog thank you so much for taking the time! I will now go back to trying to post weekly, with a mixture of what inspires me and my current work!

See you soon

DAY TWENTY NINE: DESIGN A DAY

Happy Friday,

Today is my penultimate design and it's a cute one! I have done a design of Russian dolls. I think this design could be used for children's stationery, bedding, or wrapping paper. I was feeling a bit experimental so have done three different designs with the one image. What d'ya think?

Well tomorrow is the final day.. It's been really good fun thinking up patterns and creating them.
I'll have to come up with another challenge soon!
Thanks for peeking
See you tomorrow

DAY TWENTY EIGHT: DESIGN A DAY

Evening,

At work this week I am designing a vintage camera themed room. This inspired my next pattern. I wanted to use quite muted colours with a simple motif. I am actually quite happy with today's pattern :)

Happy Friday Eve
see you tomorrow xx

DAY TWENTY SEVEN: DESIGN A DAY

Good Evening,

Hope you have had a good day :) Today's pattern has reverted back to my favourite pattern subject -Pears!! I have created this using my drawing pen pad thingy-ma-bob. I just did a really quick doodle and made that into a repeat! I think I would like to add another colour in maybe a natural beige colour onto the apple core.

Have a happy evening

see you tomorrow

DAY TWENTY SIX: DESIGN A DAY

Good Evening,

Tonight I am posting a much simpler pattern. All my patterns have been all over repeat patterns so tonight I've done something a little bit different. I really like yellow and grey as a colour palette.

I could see this pattern on stationery; folders, notebook etc.

Keeping my post short and sweet tonight!
see you tomorrow

DAY TWENTY FIVE: DESIGN A DAY

Good evening,

Happy Monday! Today's pattern was inspired by the opening of the Bijou at no. 15 shop. On the launch day they were giving out cocktails, cupcakes and candy floss! So I decided to start playing around with a candy floss motif! Which then made me think of fun fairs - I love the image of a helter-skelter too and so I created this...

I like to experiment with colours - so I did a couple of different colour ways

I then just did a quick candy floss design- I'm not 100% happy with the placement but I can always rework it at a later date!

Hope you have a lovely evening. Thank you for taking a peep!

See you tomorrow

DAY TWENTY FOUR: DESIGN A DAY

Hello,

well this week I am going to try and finish my design a day challenge that I started a few months ago and then had to stop after going away to site with work. I have 7 more days to go then that's 30 designs done! After I have completed my challenge I am going to go back and sort my different designs into collections with co-ordinating  patterns :)

So to today's pattern... I have done a Halloween theme as the shops are filled with costumes and sweets ready for the scariest day of the year! Yesterday I worked on a pattern and wasn't very pleased with it. I worked on it again today but I actually think I prefer yesterday's design to today's!

What do you think??

Yesterday's pattern

Today's pattern

On Friday I mentioned to a friend I wanted to do a Halloween design and she asked what it could be used for. I thought it would be a good pattern for on napkins, table cloths or maybe even trick or treat bags. I think it's good to start thinking about what my patterns could be used for, as ultimately I would love to sell my designs for a living.

I am really going to try and keep up with my 'design a day' challenge this week.

So see you tomorrow,

Bijou at no. 15

Well hello,

Sorry for the lack of posts I've been a very busy bunny!! The lovely Gemma Ramage has recently opened a new boutique Bijou at No.15 in Lichfield selling gorgeous clothes and accessories from independent designer/makers including her own label Bijou Boudoir.

A few months a go she asked me to design a small collection of vintage inspired gift wrap and cards to sell in her shop... and I accepted the challenge with bells on. We discussed ideas and motifs that capture the idea of 'vintage'. From that I selected several motifs to work with. I then did some research into colours and came up with a palette that I thought would compliment my chosen images.

I really enjoyed working on this commission, it has really got me thinking about printers and the practicalities of getting cards and gift wrap printed.

I managed to get the designs to the shop in the nick of time at about 10pm before the shop opened the next morning. The team were still beavering away getting the shop ready for the next days grand opening and wow was it worth it... it looked great ...

The beautiful ladies on launch day

The shop looks fabulous.

I WILL BE BACK!!!

Hiya all,

Long time no speak .. I promise I will be back with my last 7 days of my challenge soon.

This weekend I am going back to the Staffordshire University to look at the work of the classmates I  started the surface pattern course with 3 years ago now. I am so excited to go and see their final year show. I definitely really wish I could have stayed and completed the degree with them all.

I also hope that their work will inspire me to get cracking again.

Hope you have a lovely weekend, will speak next week,

xx

PATTERN ON PAUSE

Well it was all going too well. Tomorrow I'm off away on site with work so won't be able to post patterns for about 2 or 3 days so will have to make up for that when I'm back! Tonight I'm running round sorting everything that I thought I had the week to do so will not be posting a pattern tonight.

Sorry, speak soon xx

DAY TWENTY THREE: DESIGN A DAY

HELLO HELLO HELLO

I have had a lovely day today. Spent a lot of time in the garden helping spruce it up a bit. Also took the dog out for a long walk and had a cheeky run so made the most of the sunshine.

For toady's pattern I did a paper cut out of card and then put it in to repeat on the computer. What do you think? It's quite simple but I like it :)

The original paper cut

Hope you have had a lovely weekend, just one more week to go then the bank holiday, ooo lovely

see you tomorrow

DAY TWENTY TWO: DESIGN A DAY

HAPPY SATURDAY :)

hope the weather has been glorious with you today. I've had a lovely day topped off nicely with a BBQ and a cheeky Malibu and lemonade :)

For today's pattern I have gone for a more random monochromatic print.  Usually I do, I think they are called 'Conversational patterns' that are quite colourful. Today I thought I would go for something different. I think tomorrow I may do a different media.. and give digital patterns a break!

Have a lovely summer evening,

see you tomorrow

DAY NINETEEN: DESIGN A DAY

Evening All,

Sorry that I'm getting later and later posting. Not only have I set myself this Design A Day challenge but I have also set myself another... I am currently training for a cancer research 10k run too. So I am squeezing that in after work before driving an hour home! Ha ha I do like to make it hard for myself. Anywhoo, today's pattern is a happy, quirky pattern. I think it is quite summery what do you think...

DAY EIGHTEEN: DESIGN A DAY

Good evening all,

Just wanted to say a quick thank you for stopping by my blog. Whether this is the first time you have looked or have been popping back everyday thank you for taking the time to have a little read :)

I like today's pattern When I was younger I used to collect penguins. They are by far my favourite animal. They are just so cute. So I wanted to do a fun quirky pattern with them.

I think once this month is over I am going to go back over some of my patterns and tweak them and also make some collections out of them.

Anywhoo, enjoy the rest of your evening, Thanks again,
see you tomorrow

DAY SEVENTEEN: DESIGN A DAY

Evening,

I've tried a slightly different style pattern tonight not sure if I'm 100% happy with it but it's good to try different things. Maybe it's the colours I'm not sure of? This deffo needs more work!

See you tomorrow

DAY SIXTEEN: DESIGN A DAY

Good afternoon,

Yesterday when I was out I bought a photo frame to put some print outs of my designs in. Just to see what they looked like away from my computer screen. I'm quite pleased with the outcome...

For today's pattern I seem to have gone back to sea life! I was going to do something different but I had a falling out with my scanner so did this design on my graphics tablet thingy-ma-jig! I like the murky colour palette on this one.

Enjoy the rest of your Sunday.
See you tomorrow

DAY FIFTEEN: DESIGN A DAY

Happy Saturday,

Hope you are all having a good weekend so far. Today my Mum and I went shopping. The  running theme in every shop we looked in was the Jubilee and the Olympics. Red, white and blue was EVERYWHERE we looked. It was on home wares, clothes and stationary. So my pattern has been heavily influenced by what I saw today...

I'm already halfway through my challenge and still enjoying it, I just need to soak up some more inspiration.

Have a lovely Saturday,

See you tomorrow

DAY FOURTEEN: DESIGN A DAY

Tonight I am absolutely shattered. I've got that tired Friday feeling. So just a quick post this evening.

Needing some new inspiration. I'm back home at my parents this weekend so going to try and find some new topics here!

Have a lovely Friday,

see you tomorrow

DAY THIRTEEN: DESIGN A DAY

Hello,

Day thirteen... eek.. unlucky for some, and kinda for me. I've struggled with my pattern today. Everything I have done I didn't really like so I've gone for something simple again. Hopefully it will make you smile.

In any case, you can't have tea without biscuits!!

The weekend is in sight! I'm driving home after work tomorrow so may be a late post again.

Hope your week has gone well so far.
See you tomorrow

DAY TWELVE: DESIGN A DAY

Bonjourno,

well I am in a chipper mood this evening :) Last night not only my friend master how to do a technical box repeat on Illustrator, but together we worked out how to do a half drop repeat and brick repeat (with a little help from one of the books I bought the other day too!) WOOP WOOP we rule Nic!!

So I have done two simple patterns tonight, what d'ya think...

Brick Repeat
Half Drop Repeat
I'm not gonna lie I'm quite chuffed. There is still a lot to learn but I'm getting there :)

Have a lovely evening
